Updos for Short Hair
Having short hair does not limit the hair styling options. While leaving those locks free is the most popular fashion trend for short hair, the updos are also a universal hit. Except for very short hair, updos remain a popular hair style. Whichever type of attire you don, there is always a suitable updo hairstyle for a great looking you. Right hairstyle is the primary factor that adds to your appearance. The popularity of updos is so high due to the comfy yet formal look which they can impart to your face. The casual updos are a hit not only amongst the runway models, but every other teenager can be seen flaunting these. So want to stay in vogue with the latest updo hairstyle trends for small hair? Then go through these cute updos for short hair.

Best Updos for Short Hair

Twist and Fix
This is one of the easy ways to do your hair and get ready in minutes. All you need is a hair clamp, that is a sleek and trendy hair clip to finish this look. Grab your hair, after brushing them smooth, twist them inwards and let an inch or two of ends stay feather-like at the top from center of the twist. Secure this twisted hair with the hair clamp and have a look. If you are sporting fringes, keep a few strands on your face and pin back the rest of it.

Bow to Bun
This is amongst the cute updos for short hair which you can wear on skirts and thin strapped tops. Tie your hair in pony using a rubber. A mid or low pony is best depending upon the length of your hair. Next, take a strand from pony and twist it around your fingers. Now remove your finger and secure twisted strand just besides the rubber using bobby pin. Take next strand and follow the same procedure. You can pin these strands all around the rubber band and convert your bow into a bun. This short hair updos can be best paired with side fringes.

Messy Updo
If you are blessed with those cute wavy locks, this is the best hairstyle for you. Be it summer or winters, this hairdo is definitely going to give you a cool and classy look. Messy updo, as the name suggests, are easy hair updos that need not be done following a set of rules or a step by step procedure. These are versatile and go well on hair of any style, texture and length. Definitely those having curly or wavy hair have advantage of skipping the curling process. Tie a high pony and start pinning the strands out of it in random fashion. 'Random' is essential to create that 'messy' look. Have your fringes rest free on your face instead of tucking them back. Messy style is also amongst popular updos for short hair for weddings and special occasions.

Clip the Curls
For small hair that can't be tied into pony or clamps to further make an updo, here's a trick. Well, this is one of the easy updos for short hair that works out really well if done in the right way. You will need to add curls at the ends before starting the hairstyle and use a styling gel and spray to secure the curls for a day long look. Comb hair to de-tangle it and start off. You will need a few narrow pins or bobby pins. Now pull your front hair back and secure with horizontal pins just below the crown. Take hair from both sides of ear and secure them with pins just below the crown. Take up all hair from your nape till the corn and secure with pins. You will have free hair in center collected from all sides. Now curl and turn them outward and use a hair spray or hair wax to secure the look.

These were some updos for short hair that are easy to wear and will give you a maintenance free, day long look. So want to become a cool beauty with tied up hair and stylish glares? Then what are you waiting for, get your hair styled in an ultra modish updo!

How to Do a Chignon

How to Do a Chignon
Everything around you is ready; the best picked dress, matching shoes, glittering clutch with all the wanted compacts and accessories in it, but I guess the most important part is missing - what have you thought about your hairstyle? There goes down all the excitement. Well don't you sigh! We girls sometimes, never know what is right for an occasion. So, hoping that we often do not land in such situations, I have discovered some easy ways to know how to do a chignon. A chignon is a not too formal but a trendy bun which can be worn on any occasion looking all stylish and still sticking up a feminine look. Doing a chignon is very easy, you can work on long hair as well as short and can tie them tight or loose. You've just got to do it perfectly and believe me, you will still manage to grab all the admiring glances at you.

Accessories Required for a Chignon

Before we move on to learn some easy steps to do a chignon, the basics required for hairstyling are the hair materials and tools that are supposed to be used. Given below are some must-have hair accessories for a hairstyle like chignon.

Hair Accessories
  • Hair Brush
  • Hairpins/Bands/Sticks
  • Hair Mousse/Spray
  • Anti-frizz Hair Serum
It goes without saying! These are obviously the highly required hair accessories, which will be used while doing the hairdo. Once we have these read, what's next? Well, it's simply time for some action baby to get you all dressed up with that 'perfect' look, for a party or an event. Come, let's take a look at some helpful steps given below, so that you can start tying a chignon in your hair soon.

Steps to Do a Chignon

Step #1 ~ Hair Wash
Well, I know it is quite obvious for us to think that one is, of course, going to run a head bath before going out for a party or so. You win! Definitely one will. But you have to do it a day before the party or event. Almost all stylists recommend that washing hair a day earlier helps the oils in the scalp to settle down to the hair shaft, which will simply help in smooth brushing of your hair. In this manner, you will have smooth, silky and shiny hair to do the styling.

Step #2 ~ Brush Your Hair
When you learn how to style a chignon, brushing your hair very smoothly is important. Also, this is a decisive step to decide exactly, on which side you would want to part your hair; middle, side or just straight at the back.

Step #3 ~ Styling Materials
Depending upon the hair texture a person has, this is an optional step to know how to do a chignon. If you know that your hair is stalwart and uncompromising for that chignon to look beautiful, you may use some hair care products to make the chignon stay in its place, once it's set up. Try different products on a little section of your hair. Check whether that product suits you and then decide to go ahead with the overall styling. And yes, you will have to avoid making that fuss about your hair looking hay-like, because styling products are going to change the texture to some extent.

Step #4 ~ Making a Chignon
  1. Knowing how to style a chignon starts from here. Split your hair into a ponytail, don't pull the ponytail too tight, just form a base to tie a chignon. Divide the ponytail into two parts. Bringing them close together, twist them tightly in the form of a spiral and tie an elastic band at the end of the spiral. Many hairstylists braid the ponytail together to give it a more ornamental look.
  2. The next step is, positioning your hands to form a curl. This is a leading point to know how to tie a chignon for your hair. Hold the ponytail in one hand at the nape of the neck, and with your other hand, lift the ponytail or braid few inches above the skull base.
  3. Once you achieve the position of the curl, start to curl up the twisted braid/ponytail from the base in the form of a bun to attain an updo hairstyle.
  4. Oh! Wait there. It's not finished yet. You will need to pin up the chignon just to keep it in proper place. While you are twisting up the braid/ponytail bit-by-bit, you must keep pinning up the hairdo so that it doesn't fall out of place. For doing this, hold some hair from the chignon and place it to the bunch of hair at the back of your head.
Tips on Hair Products
  • For normal long or semi-long hair, use a gel. Quickly and lightly squirt your hair with water and apply little amount of gel to it. Work your way through, making sure you cover the entire head. Just do not use the gel excessively.
  • The same procedure can be repeated using mousse.
  • Make sufficient use of hairspray on dry hair. It will develop some grip in your hair. And don't forget to shake the can occasionally to avoid ending up with excessive crunchy hair.
  • Use soothing serum in case of too thick or wiry hair. It acts as a good holding agent.
Now before I royally conclude and tell you that these were some simple ways of doing a chignon, let me throw some light on the last step of my article (Step #4), i.e., pinning up your chignon using hairpins. Use of hairpins or bands are the most awaited part for women who love to dress perfectly. If you think your party is nice and grand for you to show some of what you have on your plate, probably you can use jeweled hairpins in your chignon, which would match the color of your dress or even your hair. Make sure you press the pin deep inside the bun such that only the sparkling jewels are seen in your hair. Another alternative can be the usage of thin bobby pins. Pinning your hair with a number of pins depends upon the quality of your hair, whether it is thick or voluminous. Also, it depends on the way you want to make it look; either messy or smooth for long hair. And to do a chignon with short hair, it is understood that one will need less number of hairpins in the process. Oh surely, there wouldn't be any compromise, you would still look good even with that short hair, and less-pinned chignon. One last note to press on - use more number of hairpins in the middle section of the bun because that is that part where the entire load of the bun gets added. Some hairstylists even make use of the hair sticks, if you certainly know how to get your way around that thing, go ahead and dress your chignon up with that as well.

And voila! I am done here. Hey, wait a second, before you rush yourself to face your dearest vanity, remember to practice these simple ways to do your own chignon in your spare time. This is, so that you won't be all hyperactive and run around in super-speed just a few hours before you present yourself on an occasion. Probably after you have perfected the art of coiling up this bun called chignon, if you read this article after a few days, you might just tell me: Hey! I know how to style a chignon and to that I would just reply: Yeah gal! you got it right, I am sure, now you do know how to do a chignon yourself!

Messy Bun Updo

Messy Bun Updo
Many women think of updos as difficult hairstyles that can only be done in a salon by a professional. However some easy updo styles like a messy updo are easy and simple to create at home. They require minimum styling products and then you can style them even if you don't have just washed hair. It is less complicated to create than a formal bun and you can dress it up by using different types of hair accessories like barrettes, bejeweled pins and hair combs. A messy bun hairstyle gives you a tousled look that is both soft and romantic and it is just right for a casual party. Here we are going to discuss how to do a messy bun updo.

Quick Messy Bun Updo

For creating a messy bun updo at home, first you need to shampoo and condition your hair with a volumizing shampoo and an anti frizz conditioner. Using a volumizing shampoo is especially important if you have fine, thin hair. This will give your messy bun more volume. Apply a bit of hair mousse to your hair and blow dry hair straight by using a blow dryer and a paddle brush. Once you are done blow drying your hair, take the front section of your hair and back comb it to get more volume. Take one or two-inch section of hair from the front and use a rattail comb to tease hair. When you have teased the entire front section of hair, pull this section of hair backwards and tie it into a low ponytail at the nape of your neck. Twist the ponytail softly around the base in a clockwise direction and pin it in place by using bobby pins. Pull out a few strands of hair from either sides of your face, to give your face a soft look. Spritz your hair with strong hold hairspray to secure the style.
Messy Bun Updo

Elegant Messy Bun Updo

Here is another one of messy bun updo hairstyles that is very popular. For this updo, first shampoo and condition your hair with a volumizing shampoo and shine enhancing conditioner. Apply a volumizing hairspray to your hair and then use a diffuser to blow dry your hair. Tease the front section of your hair with a fine toothed comb to create volume. Create soft and loose curls to the rest of your hair by using a medium barreled curling iron. Gently run your fingers through the curls to create extra volume. Make a low ponytail with your hair and secure the ponytail with an elastic band. Twist the ponytail to create a messy bun and pin it in place with a few bobby pins. You can also use hair combs to keep the bun in place. Allow the curls to hang loose from the bun creating a soft look. Apply a final spritz of strong hold hairspray to hold the bun hairstyle in place.
Messy Bun Updo

These were two easy messy bun updo hairstyles that you can create at home. If you have very silky hair, then it might be difficult to keep the bun in place. In such a case, it is better to work with hair that has been washed a day or two before. Women with fine hair will benefit by first curling their hair before creating the messy bun updo for long hair. This will give your hair greater volume and you, a romantic look. Remember to use a good hairspray or you will end up with frizzy hair. Messy bun updo hairstyle is the ultimate in casual and chic hairstyles and you should definitely give it a try.

Tips for Preparing Your Hair for an Updo

updo hairstyle
If updos are looks that you like to wear regularly, or the type of 'do you'd like to incorporate into your hairstyle arsenal, then keep these two hair preparation tips in mind.
Updos

Model with an upstyleUpdos, especially elaborate ones, need grip and the right hair texture before you even begin styling, so remember these tips.

Go for day old hair. The golden rule of a successful updo is to never wash your hair the day youre going to style it into an updo. Second day hair has the right amount of oils to allow your hair to be put into place, and to stay there. If youre worried that your finished result will look oily then lightly shampoo your bangs and/or the strands around your face, but leave the rest of your hair alone so that its easy to work with.
updo hairstyle

Work hair styling products like mousse or gel through your hair with a comb before you begin styling. They will help to inject the right amount of grip and texture into your strands so that you can mould your hair into place. They will also stop any hair accessories from sliding out of your hair easily.

And that's all it takes to get your hair strands ready for an updo! Although simple, these hair tips will work to give your hair a great base and strong finish for any type of updo.
